Level 1: how does the title relate to the book?
"The Faul In Our Stars" means that people suffer needlessly because they get unlucky, not because they're evil or have done something wrong. This relates to the book because Hazel, Augustus, and, Isaac have cancer, and it's not their fault at all, it was just written in the stars. They are good people who don't deserve to suffer. John Green tries to write a novel about how we live in world that isn't fair or a  "wish-granting factory". Hazel's cancer and loosing Augustus wasn't her fault, she didn't deserved it; but if she hadn't been so sick or Augustus so well, then the stars would not be so terribly crossed, as Peter Van Houten said. Isaac getting blind wasn't his fault either, or Augustus being of the 20% that don't survive osteosarcoma. It's all in the stars.

Symbolism
Level 3: How does symbolism relate to other elements of the work, such as character or theme?
I think one of the most important symbols in this book if the not the most important is water. There is a lot of water in this book. Important moments occur in Amsterdam, also known as the city of canals basically built in water and makes it a beautiful city. Also, Hazel suffers lung cancer and this produces her lungs to fill with cancer water and only survives to this by having doctors pull away the water. Plus, Augustus's last name is Waters. It shows that water can be helpful and beautiful but at the same time it can cause destruction.

What conflicts occur?
So before Augustus invites Hazel to Amsterdam, they go on a picnic date. There, Augustus touches Hazels cheeks and she tenses up. Hazel wants to go but the conflict of her health comes in but her doctor authorizes the trip if her mom goes, so Hazel's mom will go too. Then Hazel keeps thinking about how Augustus touching her cheek feels wrong and does not want o make out with him even though she really is attracted to him. So Hazel calls Kaitlyn but it doesn't help, so she decides to look up Augustus old girlfriend, Caroline, who died of cancer. As she reads through Caroline's wall, she realizes how many people got hurt after her death. Hazel realizes she is like a grenade too, and that's why she feels uncomfortable to get close to Augustus because she thinks she will die first (Spoiler: she doesn't) and hurt Augustus feelings. Then Hazel tells her parents about she being a grenade and being afraid to hurt people, but they tell her the joy she gives them is greater than the sadness they feel for her illness. Later she texts Augustus about it and he seems very comprehensive about it.

What conflicts occur?
So throughout the book there are some conflicts, at first we know Hazel has cancer and will always be sick. Then at support group, there's this guy called Isaac which is Hazel and Augustus friend that has eye cancer and will soon go blind to be cancer free. Just before Isaac has his eye surgery, his girlfriend breaks up with him, so Isaac is just having an awful time. Then, another conflict occurs, Hazel recommended Augustus her favorite book, which is narrated with a girl with cancer. The book ends at the middle of a sentence because Ana dies or is too ill to continue writing. So Hazel tells Augustus how she has tried to contact Peter Van Houten, the author, to clear some doubts about what happens with the other characters. Somehow, Augustus contacts him and shares his email with Hazel. She writes Van Houten a letter about her questions, but Van Houten refuses to answer them if it's not in person. He makes Hazel an invitation to Amsterdam, where he lives, but Hazel's parents cannot afford such trip. So Hazel feels sad and tells Augustus, and he offers Hazel his wish, from a cancer foundation,  to Hazel to take her to Amsterdam. This is a great solution of the conflict for Hazel, but it's actually another conflict because her health is very delicate and something might happen to her or Augustus during the trip.

Chapter 2 and 3: What actions happen?
After Support Group, where Augustus and Hazel first meet, Hazel goes to Augustus house to watch a movie. She meets his mom and dad, who are very good people. Augustus and Hazel get to know each other better, their diagnosis, what they do on their free time, and their ideas. Augustus makes Hazel feel special and asks her for a second date and they start to fall in love.
The next day is Hazel's birthday and she goes to the mall with her best friend from school, Kaitlyn. Kaitlyn is described as an extremely sophisticated 25 year old British socialite stuck inside a 16 year old body. I think the author included her in the book to let us know that before Hazel left school, she was very popular. It gives us clues on how her life was before her illness and how it dramatically changes after it. She had to leave school and is not in contact with most of her friends anymore. Also, after losing 3 years of school, she can't remember some people. Kaitlin kind of give us a glimpse of how popular Hazel was when she attended to school and how much her life changed.

Chapter 1: Who are the principle characters? Describe them.
The main characters in The Fault in Our Stars are Hazel Graze Lancaster and Augustus Waters. Hazel is a 16 year old girl who suffered from thiroid cancer and now has lung cancer. She has to carry an oxygen tank that gives her lungs oxygen through a cannula. She likes to stay in bed and read the same book over an over, think about her death and watch American Next Top Model. She has green eyes, chubby cheeks, and a pageboy haircut. She suffers from depression, which is a side effect of dying, not cancer. She goes to a Support Group at a church with other kids fighting against cancer; most of them would live into adulthood, but Hazel knew she wouldn't. In Support Group, Hazel met Augustus Waters, a friend of her only friend at Support group.
Augustus Waters is a 17 year old boy who had osteosacorma and had his right leg taken out, but he was now fine. He chooses his behaviors based on metaphors. He is long and leany muscular, has mahogany short strait hair, and Hazel describes him as hot. He is not very described in chapter one, but you get to know him better throughout the rest of the book.

Usually I read books 2 or 3 times and I read The Fault in Our Stars about a month ago. I found it a very interesting and realistic book so I thought this was a great opportunity to analyze the book. The best part is that I will enjoy this project a lot because this is one of my favorite books so it will be very fun.  I hope I get to analyze all of the small details and write a good summary about this book.
